EVANS THROWS MONARCH CONTROLLER DEPEW AND HER STAFF UNDER THE BUS IN RESCINDING HUGE TAX INCREASE

As Reported In The St. Louis Post Dispatch On October 6, 2011, Monarch Fire Protection District Board President Kim Evans and Director Steve Swyers Let Everyone Know That The Tax Increase She and Swyers Voted To Pass A Week Earlier Was District Controller Michelle Depew’s Fault.

According to the article in the Post Dispatch, “Evans said Wednesday she “felt pressured” last week to vote for the higher tax rate submitted by district controller Michelle Depew and other staff members…Evans said Depew didn’t provide the board with details for 2011 tax rates “until five minutes before the meeting…”  “Swyers also said he lacked key information before his vote Sept. 27.”

Rather than accept responsibility for their actions, these two Directors, who have clearly demonstrated time after time that the Union controls their votes, blame their vote to raise taxes on the staff members who provide them with information.  The Monarch Board began holding meetings about its budget months earlier and it had ample time to query its staff for information it might need to make decisions.

How long will it be until their new favorite whipping person, Depew is shown the door?  Evans and Swyers need to look in the mirror when it comes to handing out blame for their wildly unpopular tax hike.
