EVANS AND SWYERS SEE THE LIGHT AND TAKE BACK TAX INCREASE

In An Unexpected Twist, Monarch Fire Protection District Directors Evans And Swyers Voted To Rescind The Huge Tax Increase They Had Passed Just One Week Earlier

Missouri State Senator Jane Cunningham, who represents a large portion of the Monarch Fire Protection District, joined with members of Monarch Concerned Taxpayers at the October 4 Board meeting in demanding the Board reverse its September 27 vote to raise taxes by a whopping 7%.

In making the motion to rescind the increase Swyers stated he found it hard to set the tax rate when the Board had not yet set the District’s budget for the upcoming year.  If that is the case, then why didn’t he state this on September 27 and further, why did he proceed to set the tax rate without a budget?  We would not have expected this from a man who went to great lengths in his campaign to point out that he is an experienced CPA.

The Monarch Concerned Taxpayers are nonetheless pleased that Evans and Swyers reluctantly joined Director Harris in restoring our tax rate to the current levels.
